One Mans Trash Is Another Man's Treasure

Last week was the busiest week of my mission! Ok probably not but it
felt like it. Tuesday sister Alldredge and I went up to Eugene with
some other sisters for a meeting with president Russell. All of the
leadership got together to be taught by him, and then we went back and
taught the same thing to our zones.
So then on Friday we had zone training meeting. Us and the zone
leaders taught the missionaries in our zone. Some of the topics were
prayer, planning, how to teach repentance, and how anything is
possible with God. It was such a good meeting! We had to read the talk
called " with God nothing shall be impossible" from the April 1988
general conference. It taught the lesson that we can do all things
with gods help. We read the scripture D&C 84:88 to tie it all
together. When we understand who we are we can understand to go to God
for all things. He wants us to go to him for help because he loves us!

When sister Sister Alldredge and I were planning at night I ate a
banana and threw it into the trash can, but somehow it went up and hit
the cereal on the fridge and then fell and hit the wall and landed
next to the banana, so our new phrase is "it's just like throwing a
banana." Which is like a fail! It'll catch on

Church on Sunday was really amazing. During Sunday school sister
Alldredge and I were on the way to class after lingering a little too
long talking to members, and we saw a bunch of people standing in the
hallway waiting for class to start. They told us that the teacher
cancelled the class because no one showed up at first, and they didn't
want to walk in late to gospel doctrine. So they asked us to share a
spiritual thought. Since sacrament meeting was all about Jesus Christ
we decided to talk on the atonement. We shared some scriptures and
also a video called " reclaimed" by Elder Shayne M. Bowen. It talked
about a garbage dump and how it was changed in to something beautiful.
He talked about how he wouldn't go and dig up the old junk to clean up
what was his because by doing this he would be destroying something
that was made beautiful. Jesus Christ died for us so that we could
repent and turn those mistakes into lessons. We can learn from those
trials that we have, and when we repent we don't need to dig up the
past, but move on and become better because of those experiences.
There was a woman in the class who raised her hand to tell us that she
learned a lot from the lesson that she is going to use for someone she
has to do this week. We later found out from her husband that she
hasn't been to church in a long time, and that lesson is exactly what
she needed. I know that the spirit directed that lesson, and that
everything happened exactly how it was supposed to to set that lesson
up.

We went to visit the D & T on Sunday because they went out of town
when we were supposed to have a lesson Saturday. We sat down with T
and got to talk to her one on one for a while. It was really nice
because she's opened up to us so much since we first met her. The
bishop went to their house the day before to invite them to church,
but they didn't come. So when we were talking to T she said to us "
I don't own a dress or anything, but I have a nice pair of pants and a
shirt." And we knew exactly what she was talking about! And she
brought that up on her own too! I think she's finally ready to come to
church. She told us that she wants to come check out the Mormons and
we've been praying for this for so long! Prayers are always answered
no matter how long it takes.

It's interesting how there is always a theme to my week. For the past
two weeks the theme has been the same. It's been that God will help us
do all things and that we are his children. The more I've been
learning the more I come to understand who I really am, and how much
my Heavenly Father loves me. He loves me so much! And I know he loves
each of you the same amount. I've come to realize that I can do all
things, but only with his help. It's those times when I think I can
stand on my own that I fall, but he is right there to pick me up. God
is good, and he's been there for me forever. All of these miracles I
tell you about each week happen because of him. All things are
possible through God.

Love,
Sister Peterson
