Monday we had a family home evening at a members house with the
Ps. We taught them about knowledge, and I got to use an
awesome object lesson that I was taught in primary! So family you
better remember this. I took a strainer that you usually use for pasta
and put it inside of a bowl. Then I took objects which represented
physical worldly things and placed them in the strainer. Then we pour
water which represented knowledge. when we lifted up the strainer all
of the objects were caught, and the bowl was filled with the
knowledge. The strainer represents our life on earth and the bowl
represents heaven. This showed that the only thing we get to take with
us to the next life is what we've learned here on earth. It explains
how Important it is to study the gospel and get an education. At the
end of the lesson we had them all write down talents and gifts they
want to accomplish and how they are going to gain those things. A
couple of them wrote down patients and I could get behind that!
On Friday we had new missionary training and district meeting in
Ashland. We focused a lot on families and how to help others recognize
the importance of eternal families. Later that day we went to talk to
this guy and used that same lesson that we were taught about
introducing family home evening, and he wasn't interested, but he
offered us candy corn so that was a tender mercy!
We went on exchanges after our meetings and got to tract in Ashland. I
was with Sister Viiga during that and we met a really awesome guy
named J. We felt the spirit so strong when we taught him the
restoration and he seemed to really enjoy the story of the Book of
Mormon! We went back to my area, and had an amazing miracle happen. As
Sister Viiga and I were on the way to visit someone we just met last
week when we saw B, the dad of the two boys we've been teaching,
walking up the sidewalk towards us. We haven't been able to meet with
them in weeks, and he told us to hold on while he went inside to do
something and then he came right back out. And he said to us " Im
sorry it seems like I've been avoiding you. It's just that I feel so
unworthy when you're around because you're so good and special and I'm
not." So I told him that we are all children of God and we are equal
in his eyes regardless of the mistakes that we make. He shouldn't feel
bad because we all mess up. He told us that he wanted to be a better
father to his two sons, and he wanted to be a better man. We showed
him the #halleluja video and after he watched it he said "I got the
goosebumps" so we explained to him that's the spirit telling him
what's true! We felt very prompted to invite him to be baptized, and
when We asked him he kept nodding his head, so we told him that by
making this choice God will be so happy with him. Then we told him
that we were having a baptismal service on October 8 he said " I just
might show up." Now he's working to be baptized! We gave him a Book of
Mormon and told him it would give him the strength that he needs to
become the man that God intended him to be, and to be a better father
to his kids.
We had an amazing lesson with D & T on Saturday! We
had a lesson on who God is and faith. It was amazing Because we asked
them how they came to know that God was real. And T said it was
because she felt it. D told us an amazing experience that he had
which led him to his belief. Then T told us that she would gladly
read the Book of Mormon because she believes that it is all scripture
from God. And we are making progress base when we asked them to come
to church Tina didn't say no! They really are so great and amazing
people. At the end of the lesson when we were about to say the closing
prayer D calls on T to say it, and she said no because she
doesn't like to be put on the spot, so D says the prayer and he
starts with " God please help my honey say the prayer because she
always makes me say it and says we put her on the spot" and we all
started laughing! It was a really good lesson too because they gave us
brownies! They are the best :)
We went to Lithia park in Ashland to exchange back we went to try the
water from that nasty water fountain because sister Viiga has never
tried it before, but when we got over there a riot was going on. It
was something about water so we had to be real quick and there was a
little boy next to the fountain and he told sister Viiga that the
water tastes really good, so she told him to drink it first so he did
and he legit was drinking for about a minute straight! I think all of
us were in shock because of how nasty that was.
I love you all! Have a great week
Love,
Sister Peterson
