It's A Girl!

So for those who are wondering if I am feeling 22 the answer is yes! I
don't feel like I'm getting older and today feels like any other great
day in the mission! We are having pday as a district and  we had
breakfast and they made me a cake and sang to me. So yes I am in the
best district in the mission! We played volleyball and I think we
might be going on a hike later so that'll be fun!

Last week I stayed in Springfield with sister Gregory until Thursday
when I met my trainee. We had such a good time and we taught some
really good lessons. There is a young family that they are teaching
and when we got there the wife had so many questions about the temple
and they have a goal to be sealed as a family in a year from when they
are baptized! It was amazing to see how much they loved the gospel and
how they wanted nothing more than to be together for eternity.
We had a meeting Wednesday night for everyone who is going to train.
There was 5 sisters and 7 elders and we were taught by president Lowry
and president Russell and then elder Holman and elder Finlinson who
are the assistants to President Russell. They talked about what we
need to do to train and make sure these missionaries are the best that
they can possibly be. They told us that about 75% of what we do will
most likely be what the trainees do, so that is a TON of pressure put
on us! But from conference I realized that this is the calling that
God has for me at this time and he trusts me with one of his
daughters. I know with his help I will be able to help this sister
become the missionary he intended for her to become.

Thursday morning we all gathered together and had a breakfast for the
missionaries serving around Eugene. We sang the EFY medley to the new
missionaries as they sat and listened in the chapel. It was so
powerful and they all looked so good and intimidating! I recited the
standard of truth with an elder and all I could think was "don't mess
up, don't mess up" and I didn't so the prayer was answered!
Then it was time to meet my girl! Ready to hear? Her name is Sister
Peck and she is from Utah. She's an inch taller than me and she's
gorgeous! She's really nice and I'm so excited to be training with
her! It took us a couple hours to get from Eugene to coos bay and the
Phipps who are serving their mission in the office drove us down. We
live with a member and I'm pretty pumped about that! We are in the
first ever car share with sisters and I get to see sister Dobbs like
every day because she is my stl! We had dinner with members and the
wife joined the church two years ago. They were very nice and the
elders were there too because we share a ward with them.
When we got home after dinner I took sister Peck to go tracting for
the first time. I let her pick which street to go to and we chose one
very close to where we live. We knocked in an apartment, but no one
seemed to be interested. We decided to go across the street and knock
on the only house with its lights on. A young woman opened up and we
got to talking to her. She told us that she's been wanting to raise
her 2 year old daughter with a knowledge of Jesus Christ. They moved
here a couple months ago and have been looking for a church to join.
We taught her how families are eternal and we really focus on the
importance of families in our church. She loved that and said we could
meet again this week! Then we asked to say a prayer with her and she
was blown away that we asked to pray with her. It's amazing how The
Holy Ghost will put things in to your head that pertain to the people
you meet.

On Sunday we decided to walk down the boardwalk to talk to people. It
was tempting to jump off the dock, but luckily I had a companion to
hold me back. We didn't meet anyone who was interested, but hey at
least the view was nice! We went to contact someone who lived close,
but the apartments were locked. Luckily this guy kindly let us in. He
told us that we didn't look like we could do any harm haha jokes on
him! We knocked on this mans door named D and he was so nice and
cute! He's this cute old man that missionaries have talked to in
passing. He told us he might be moving, but if he doesn't then he
promised he would join our church. I don't know about you but I'm
praying he stays here! He was very nice and we are meeting with him
this week. Then we gave him a restoration pamphlet and he said " wait
I have something for you!" He pulled out a necklace with a cross on it
and told us to take it. It was the thought that counts!

Everything has been going well here with sister Peck and I. We are
trying to get used to this area the best that we can, and learning how
to get around. General conference was amazing and it was a good
learning opportunity on what I need to do better in my work and how I
should teach those I work with. I know that I was called to Oregon by
God, and I am excited for the rest of this transfer to happen! I love
you all and hope you have the best week!

Love,
Sister Peterson
