Hey hey! Hope everyone had the best week. Let me fill you in on all the goods that have been happening in the ysa. First I'll let you know more about sister Wilson! She's from St. George, Utah and she has 4 brothers and sisters. She's been on her mission for about 10 months and she just came to Eugene from Brookings which is on the coast in the coos bay zone! Woo she's great and really motivated to work hard every day. And she's the sweetest!! She can make anyone feel super good about themselves. She's amazing! It's gonna be another great transfer!Monday was transfers. Sister Rhoton stayed with sister Wilson and me for a few days while she was waiting to train. So Monday we all went on campus to OYM people all night while it was pouring rain. Basically the usual, and we got soaked but talked to a couple people about the Book of Mormon.Tuesday we had a lesson with this guy named C. He is a referral from the huge finding experience on campus the other week with all the leaders in the mission. He's super cool and we will be meeting with him this week too!Wednesday we dropped sister Rhoton off at the mission home, and went back on campus to find more people to teach! That night we picked up one of the new sisters and took her to a lesson with Joh. And when we showed up President Russell was telling them some pretty good advice. He told them that if they are talking with someone and they can't remember the lessons, or can't remember their name then they should share their testimony. I have held on to that advice since I heard it! You can't go wrong with your own personal testimony. It'll melt hearts of stone.
Lauren came to Joh's lesson and when we sat down all ready to go he told us that he read the introduction to the Book of Mormon, the testimonies of the 3 and 8 witnesses and Joseph smith, and the brief explanation about the Book of Mormon! He's amazing! He had some really good questions about what he read and we committed him to read from the Book of Mormon every day and pray to know if it's true. He said he would and then we taught him about the pre earth life and how he lived with god before this life as a spirit and he will have the chance to live with god again and baptism is that first step! We invited him to be baptized again and he told us that he would like to learn a little more before committing. It shorter lesson since we had to get sister maddock back to the mission home, but it was really good because we were able to answer his questions and help him see gods love for him and that he will feel of that love as he read from the Book of Mormon and prays!
When we dropped sister Maddock off we went back to the church to have a lesson with J. She's doing really well and had a great Easter weekend. We taught her about obedience and how we obey because we love God, and he gives us commandments because he loves us! We read 1 Nephi 20:18 with her that talks about how following the commandments helps us to have peace and live righteously.
We met a guy named T while we were on our way to tract. He was standing outside, and when we started talking to him he told us he doesn't know much about Christ or god, so we talked about how God is our loving Heavenly Father and he loves hearing from us through prayer. He's from china so we used the analogy of a long distance phone call, and asked him if he called his family much and he told us every day and they love hearing from him. We told T that god would love to hear from him too. He's far away, but can be close as we pray to him. T agreed to say his first prayer with us right in that moment! He asked one of us to say a pray so he could know how to pray, and right as we bowed our heads and started to pray this small dog starts barking and running at us and I'm pretty sure all our our hearts stopped it was so scary. BUT we prayed and then he said this wonderful prayer asking god to bless his family!Friday we had district meeting, and got to meet everyone at came in to the zone last week! We learned about how to teach people about god who don't have much religious background by asking them inspired questions! Lots of role plays that helped us so much the whole weekend.
We OYMed on campus and met so many cool people within three feet of each other. We met this guy named C and had the best conversation with him about the Book of Mormon and we set up a time to meet, but he texted us later saying he read 30 pages of it and said he didn't want to meet with us anymore. It was a bummer but we keep saying we are going to run in to him on campus and he's going tell us he kept reading and he loves everything it says and wants to meet with us. I'll keep you posted for when that happens.Saturday We saw A on campus! She was just sitting on a bench reading poetry! We were teaching her then she moved to Portland and she's still meeting with the missionaries, and told us that she feels so much joy when she's learning from them and reading the Book of Mormon! We ran in to her on campus and I had the dorkiest smile on my face when I saw her!!Sunday we went to a family Ward!! I haven't been to a family ward since January! The reason we went was because he ysa had this huge conference for young single adults all around northern Oregon. So they were all at church in Albany and we had to find another church to go to! But it was great because some of the moms there wanted us to go visit their daughter and tell them to come to ysa! So we figured we are going to ward hop every week to get more referrals. Jk jk but they were all pretty excited to see us! We also ate dinner with some members from the ward that night! Yay! Then we went tracting and contacting and talked to this guy named B who we are meeting with Friday!!Love you all! Have a great week :)
Love,Sister Peterson
