So somehow another week has gone by, or a couple days since I emailed last Wednesday! The last few days were very crazy! I ate some elk steak for dinner one night. It was very interesting but I'll just say I had three bites! I'm a champion. Also happy Father's Day to all of the fathers and father figures out there! Thank you for everything that you do and for all of the support! Let's not forget to give thanks to our Heavenly Father and show him the respect and love he deserves too. Now let's dive in to this week that I've had!
On Friday we had a mission zone conference with all the missionaries in the southern part of the mission. Elder Johnson of the 70 came to talk to us. He spoke a lot on how we can go into depth when we speak of Heavenly Father. So asking people what they think when they hear Heavenly Father and what I thought of was a smile! Because he is so loving and generous towards us. So what do you think when you hear Heavenly Father? It was a really good meeting and I learned so much about being a better teacher which will help in later life as well. He told me that to become a better teacher and love people more is to get to know them. The only way to teach and to love is to know the people! Everyone has a story and when we understand them more fully we are able to talk to them with love and help them get to where they need to do.
I had my first leadership meeting! We talked about the tree of life and talked about how we can stay active after our missions! The key is to read the scriptures every day! When we do that we are getting closer to God and putting on the armor of God every day.
We taught W on Saturday night about the word of wisdom which is the key to being healthier and feeling the spirit every day. We know he loves coffee and when we got to the point of explaining that we don't drink coffee his face just sunk and he was so sad for the rest of the lesson! It was really heartbreaking, but he said he wouldn't drink it anymore. We told him to drink hot chocolate instead! But it was just really sad, but we know and he understood the importance of staying away from those things which God has revealed to the prophet for us to not partake of. He also came to church on Sunday and really enjoyed it! I'm excited for him to fully accept this gospel and see the blessings work in his life! He really just makes our day because he is always so positive and happy even if it's raining! I'm trying to be more like him in that way!
I don't think I told you about A the 98 year old woman we met while knocking on doors. She is so cute and so healthy and we got to talking and found out she can crochet and so now I'm making a pot holder! It's so much work and takes a lot of patience so I'm also learning that! It's so nice to be able to spend time with her and learn much about life and she gives us some good advice!
We had a lesson with M on Saturday and we were going to teach the plan of salvation, but ended up focusing on the atonement. We got to talking about how with the help of our savior our past doesn't have to define us. The pains we once felt we don't need to feel them anymore. It was such a spiritual experience and I love being a part of someone's life change. She is changing so much and understanding gods love for her every day. And she just loves reading the Book of Mormon! I love M and cannot wait for her to make those amazing promises with her Heavenly Father.
Ok funny story time. When we were talking to W this man came up to us and asked if he could sing a song he wrote about his mom. So we said of course! And he sat on the ground and sang a song. It was like a Native American song and it was actually pretty good. It was so peaceful and just beautiful! But that's just a day in the life of a missionary. The most interesting things can happen and it doesn't even phase me anymore.
Well everyone I love you all and have the best week!
Love, Sister Peterson ️
